My opinion of Anthony Morris III has changed following his recent zone visit to Italy
My opinion of Anthony Morris III has changed following his recent zone visit to Italy

Those who follow my YouTube channel will be familiar with my “Getting To Know You” series of videos, which I’ve been producing for some time.

These short films use selected clips from Governing Body talks to reveal the character and intellect of Governing Body members, who now consider themselves collectively to be the “faithful and discreet slave.”

By far the stand-out performer from this series has been Anthony Morris III (or “Tony” Morris as his friends call him). While other Governing Body members tend to be quite guarded and diplomatic when it comes to voicing their personal opinions, Tony has a seemingly insatiable appetite for offloading his private ponderings on bewildered audiences as though these are part of some divine revelation.

As Tony himself is so fond of putting it, “I’m just a shoemaker. If the shoe fits, well you have to wear it. Don’t get mad at me. This is Jehovah’s Word, this is what’s been outlined by the Governing Body. Just take a look at yourself.”

Tony Morris gives a talk with the aid of an interpreter
Tony Morris gives a talk with the aid of an interpreter

Until now I have contentedly followed Tony’s advice and refused to get “mad” at him. It is clear from listening to his talks (as I have done for many hours over the past two years) that he is a deluded crackpot who loves the limelight and thinks very highly of himself. The “shoe” always seems to fit anyone but him. Even so, I have been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt regarding his character. I have assumed that he is essentially a kind-hearted soul suffering from serious delusional issues.

But then I listened to the recording from his recent zone visit to the Italian Branch Office in Rome, and my opinion quickly changed.

If you would like to listen to the talk yourself, you will find a recording at the foot of this article, or on this link. But make yourself comfortable! It is over an hour-and-a-half long, and half in Italian.

From what I can gather, the talk was given on January 5th in Rome as part of a Zone Visit, and was broadcast live to another audience in Israel. The discourse was translated into Italian with the aid of an interpreter.

For those who don’t have 90 minutes to spare on listening to the entire talk, here are my notes of what was discussed (timings are approximate)…

  • 01:40 – Tony toys with his audience about the new revised English New World Translation, and tells them they should have “pazienza” because he won’t be releasing a new Bible in Italian on this visit. (One brother later commented by email that this did NOT go down well with everyone, since Italians are more interested in whether their Branch Office will stay open than whether they are getting a new Bible.)
  • 16:00 – Tony asks how many families in the audience have visited the local amusement park, Gardaland, but never the local Branch Office in Rome. To such ones he says, “Explain that to Jehovah. That’s a problem.”
  • 22:00 – “When your family gets together to eat a meal, shut that thing off,” barks Tony when expressing himself regarding the television.
  • 26:00 – Tony says to families who don’t eat together on a daily basis, “Guess what, the devil has attacked you in your family.”
  • 30:00 – “Family worship needs to be more important than what we eat,” declares Tony, after a rather patronizing analogy involving pasta.
  • 35:35 – Tony tells parents who aren’t prepared to “strengthen the spirituality” of their children ahead of Armageddon that they might as well “Sit ’em down and say goodbye. Jehovah is never sentimental.”
  • 39:00 – Tony begins a rant against “extremely tight pants,” and goes on to suggest that these are an elaborate conspiracy on the part of homosexual fashion designers, who “just love it” when they see men wearing tight pants. Clearly rattled by the audience’s bemused response, Tony presses the issue and explains how when given similar “discipline” in America, Witnesses “threw those pants away, even though they spent considerable money on them.”
  • 44:00 – Tony remarks that there are a few ties in the audience that there is “no way” he would wear, even though deciding on which tie to wear is a “personal choice” and Witnesses do not need to dress “prudishly.”
  • 46:00 – Witnesses should not wear clothing that “enters the room before they do” in the style of Lady Gaga.
  • 48:30 – Tony says of King David, “When he’s resurrected, you tell him I spoke fondly of him!” The way the talk is going, I’m not sure he would welcome that endorsement.
  • 49:20 – “She doesn’t like it when she gets into my talks,” Tony says of Mrs Morris, with whom it’s easy to sympathize.
  • 53:50 – Tony bemoans films featuring vampires. “Are they dead or are they alive?” he muses.
  • 55:00 to 56:19 – The feed goes silent, presumably due to a technical problem. Audience members have opportunity to conduct a quick visual audit of tight pants and flamboyant ties.
  • 01:00:00 – Tony relates the story of a father who would pray each night for his children to “never have to be dealt with by a judicial committee.”
  • 01:01:00 – Tony quips that Italians can be “excitable sometimes.”
  • 01:04:00 – A strange bike story is related in which a dog ends up being “the only one in the whole house that behaved like a Christian.” You can’t help but wonder whether it was wearing appropriate legwear.
  • 01:07:00 – Those who aren’t preaching the “good news of the kingdom” have blood on their hands, which God can see.
  • 01:14:00 – “When I finally get to heaven I hope he says ‘what a reward’,” Tony says of the mentor who took his Bible study – also of the professed anointed.
  • 01:14:50 – Tony begins a discussion on shunning, using misapplied scripture and a dubious second-hand experience to reinforce the idea that the practice should be enforced within the family. Any who speak to disfellowshipped loved ones must repent.
  • 01:25:00 – Tony concludes by relating the story of a Witness who impressed police with her “unbreakable faith” following the death of her daughter, who was murdered by another Witness.
  • 01:31:30 – Tony indulges himself and his audience in a make-believe conversation between two mothers from “five hundred years after the thousand-year reign has finished,” or “fifteen hundred years into the future.” I guess that means Armageddon IS coming this year then.

Of all the examples of delusion and eccentricity in Tony’s talk, arguably his homophobic rant against tight pants was the most jaw-dropping. Rarely has a Governing Body member been known to disgorge such an opinionated torrent of bigotry and small-mindedness quite so publicly and all at once.

On hearing the tight pants tirade I set about making the above video, along with another longer version featuring a humorous Will Ferrell skit at the end. It demonstrated perfectly, in my mind, how outrageous this man is. Anyone listening to Tony’s pant-related musings would struggle to associate them with a man professing to be one eighth of Christ’s “faithful and discreet slave.”

The question must surely be asked by any reasonable person, “If someone as nutty and narrow-minded as Tony Morris can be a member of the Governing Body, surely can’t anyone?”

A glimpse of true evil

It was only later, once I’d listened to the Rome talk in its entirety and fallen upon the part on shunning that my blood really began to boil and the dying embers of any respect I might have once held for Tony were finally snuffed out.

The gloves came off. I felt compelled to make another video – this time in the form of a rebuttal.

As explained in the above video rebuttal, I have come to the conclusion that Tony Morris is an evil and dangerous man. Why do I make this assertion?

Tony’s staunch defense of shunning displayed, not just ignorance and stupidity, but a concerted and cynical effort to deceive. The clearest example of this came when Tony declared: “We don’t have closed doors at kingdom halls, ropes to tie people into seats. We do this because we volunteer to become Jehovah’s people.” In uttering these words, Tony told two bare-faced lies in quick succession – both of which were aimed at manipulating his audience into adopting his point of view.

First, Tony’s “closed doors” statement implied that Witnesses are free to leave the religion whenever they choose. As one of many who are currently having their family used as a weapon against them as punishment for doing precisely that, I can personally vouch to the dishonesty of this statement.

Second, Tony suggested that all Jehovah’s Witnesses are “volunteers,” which implies that all enter the religion without coercion, at an age of maturity, and with all pertinent facts regarding the organization and its history at their disposal.

In making this latter claim, Tony must have been hoping that nobody would remember a talk he gave to an audience in America in which he recommended that parents blackmail children who reach the age of 16 without getting baptized by witholding money for their driving license. Anyone who is cajoled into joining an organization before they reach maturity and as a result of blackmail can most certainly not be called a “volunteer” in any reasonable sense.

Bereft of a clear scriptural mandate for shunning between family members, Tony subjected his audience to a second-hand half-baked “experience,” in which a disfellowshipped man who wasn’t completely shunned by his family for 20 years turned around on his reinstatement and berated his family as “disloyal” for inviting him to their annual family gatherings.

Here too, I found evidence of malevolence in Tony’s character. Those listening to the dubious story were being asked to respect the sort of person who would be ungrateful and duplicitous enough to avail himself of love, kindness and hospitality for 20 years and only berate his family members for their “disloyalty” once it was convenient for him to do so.

In my opinion, the story showed all the signs of having been concocted by a depraved mind, and represented a desperate attempt on Tony’s part to dupe his audience into believing that those being shunned WILL come back some day if only “loyal” Witnesses will stifle their innate morality and subject disfellowshipped loved ones to cruelty and ostracism.

Whether the story was true or not, it only gave further validation to my new consideration of Tony Morris as an evil and dangerous man. He is evil for holding as laudible the heartless words of a cynical opportunist, and trying to trick his audience and pull the wool over their eyes on such an emotive and far-reaching issue as shunning.

And he is dangerous because he is so clearly deluded and yet, along with his cohorts, controls the lives of 8 million worshippers around the world – all of whom are under strict orders to obey any commands “whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.” (w13 11/15 p.20)

I can only hope that the bolder Tony becomes whenever a microphone is positioned before his incontinent mouth, the more people will see him for who he truly is.

He Anthony Morris 111 is a Pharisee, there is nothing Christ like about him, what a disgusting display of disloyalty Morris has shown to God and Christ by this hateful diatribe of vomit, he tries to pass of as food from God.

Christ would no doubt say to this man, hypocrite!

Thank you Cedars for you stand, you are doing so much for us, and others that need a platform, and yes I know the day will come when I to will have to make that stand myself, your courage is a strength!

    John 13 :

12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

    Food for thought …

Ok i would normally comment on how anyone could follow such an idiot, but after reading Steve Hassan i can see how even the most clever individuals can be tricked into switching off their reason and following a clown. Sadly no amount of evidence or reasoning can get to them. I mean the whole WT argument is flawed at every point it differs from orthodox Christianity.. but try to show this and you’re Satan. However we can just hope that this bafoon will put of those ‘interested and open hearted ones’.. Sadly the JWs are already in prison locked from the inside.

John, wonderful article and specially amazing rebuttal video. As a (still) JW taking steps to disassociate myself, the shunning was one of the subjects that made me see that this organization could not be God’s organization. And shunning is also why is taking so long to send the letter because of the consequences not only for me (and my husband, he will also disassociate) but specially for our family. But your video and some answers in this thread are precious to me, I am sure I will use it.
Thank you very much for everything, for your candid research and easy way of explaining and showing what this organization is doing to so many.
    Greetings,

    Great video, Cedars!

I will join in with any attempt to hold the WTBTS to account for clear violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It’s time to take these evil people on. They have for too long tried to paint themselves as righteous, when they are as far removed from Christian mercy as they can possibly be.

I started to listen to the one and a half hour torture feet that was Anthony Morris III’s talk, but I just can’t stand his whiny, whistley voice! He is one of the most incoherent speakers I have ever listened to.

    No retreat, no surrender!

    Peace be with you

Thank you Cedars for your accurate and sound thoughts about Morrison’s talk.

Sure this guy lost the occasion to shout his mouth or to avoid to vomit such insane thoughts!

I have been brought in the organization by my mother, I was about 8 y.o. I baptized at 15 and stayed as loyal and fervent witness till 58 years old.
My husband, first realized the deceipt and fraud, he dissociated himself and works actively lo let people know who really this organization is (You know him, Cedars…), though not so regularly as you do.
I’m still a JW, not active since almost 8 years, not dissociated because elders could not reach me, my husband has been a real and firm wall between me and them!!!!
Anyway, never been so happy after leaving the WT! Never been so free!

I also have to face ostracism from my family against my husband and find this attitude so insane. What is important to them is only “obey what the organization says”!
They do not let their heart, their conscience or their mind “work”, they only ‘follow and obey’!

It is outrageous what Morrison says at point 35:35 “JEHOVAH IS NEVER SENTIMENTAL” , what? Where is the God of love of which the Bible talks? Is it dangerous for a god to be sentimental?
You’re right, he is insane a dangerous that man.
By repeating and teaching again and again to ostracize children, and family members one should answer to him:

Mt 20:15 “It is not lawful for me to do what I want with my own things? (Or my family members?) Or is your eye wicked, because I am good?”

Well, it is a waste of time with them because it is the Bible that has to conform to their diktats!!!!

Keep on with your activities which let people reason with their mind Cedars.

Well, just got back from buying the tightest trousers that I can force myself into! I also went and bought the brightest tie that I could find.

Just off to visit Bethel and try to bump into Tony!!!

How must those poor Brothers have felt to have this judgemental idiot single them out like that? How much power does this man want? Is he going to inspect people’s socks and underwear next?

I sat down today to listen to the whole hour and a half speech, but I just couldn’t abide listening to him. He has such a poor speaking voice, and whistles when he says an s sound! It really grates, even before you concentrate on his hate speech! He rambles, and doesn’t use correct grammar, so one is left thinking does he even have a script? Surely there are handlers and press agents in the WTBTS who shudder whenever he is scheduled to speak?

I’m glad that he’s such a loose cannon! He does our work for us! Any person listening to his speeches, and having a sense of reason and proportion will identify him immediately as a crank.

He should get in touch with a UKIP (a political party in the UK, who is for leaving the EU) councillor who opined recent unprecedented floods in the UK were a result of the UK Parliament passing laws that allow homosexual couples to marry!

They’d get on fine….until Tony found out that he was a hated Baptist!

Oh, dear Cedars, when the road seems too hard to walk on, please remember that there are millions more who agree with you than disagree with you. There are billions of people on this lovely planet who would consider you and your lovely wife to be outstanding people. They would join with me in expressing their honest appreciation for what you and your wife have gone through.

People like Tony never win outright. They always are found out and exposed eventually.

    Peace be with you

    Excelsior!

This man disgusts me. He’s nothing more than an empty shell, a bully in a suit who lives off of the blood and sweat of the other real men and women over whom he holds sway. Imagine this… he flew to Rome on THEIR dime, sleeps and eats on their dime, and he has the audacity to chastise them because they’re not dressing themselves, or conducting themselves, in the way HE sees fit. He makes my blood boil. He reminds me of the character ‘Percy Wetmore’ from the movie ‘The Green Mile.’ He’s a real tough guy as long as there are prison bars between the prisoners and him. But remove that barrier, and he wets himself in fear. Tony the Turd has some real issues that he’s trying to cover over with his oh so strong words. But he can’t hide his self-loathing, no matter how much vitriol he spews at others. I’d love to sit down with this guy one on one in a real world setting over a couple of beers. I’d have him bawling like a baby after just a couple of questions about his relationship with his daddy. He makes me sick to my stomach.

I can say little more than this…
Born in the early fifties, the same year my father was baptized, I grew up a Jehovah’s Witness, went through the draft issues, practiced my faith openly, became a MS and finally an Elder. My family loved the Society in those early days because they found it to be a proponent for Biblical truth. It was enjoyable to watch my father, mother, and their close circle of friends, spend hours with Bibles in hand discussing the latest Watchtower news. I believed the Society had the truth and lived my life accordingly.

There was a certain freedom of speech that we had in those days. Decisions we often made were that of conscience and not mandate. I studied, and studied, the Bible… we all were encourage to do so, only using the Watchtower’s literature as study aids. Back in those days any member of Jehovah’s Witnesses could correspond with the Society, offering a Biblical opinion on matters.

As I reflect; I noticed a negative change after Knorr died, then a greater one after Franz passed away (I make no comment on the spirituality of either of these men). Then, starting in the early nineties, the Society came ‘out of the closet’ so to speak, revealing more of the dictatorial nature often displayed at Bethel.

Now to this day… I do believe that the Watchtower Society at one time was a watchman for Jehovah, but has now fallen far from His grace. Its future is the same as Jesus stated for the Jewish religious order of his day, and Its judgment will be as complete, ‘not a stone will be left upon a stone.’

Since, I believe, the Society monitors this site, it should contemplate this: Jehovah has found It disgusting in its filth, murders, and fornications, and will bring it to a finish in front of all the world of mankind. His spirit has long since departed it, leaving it the haunt of the horned demon. Its days are numbered, and Jehovah is counting off the minutes to its finish.

For those who have been abused and vilified by this truly apostate organization, lift your heads up because Jehovah’s day is near and He will correct all matters. Wait on Jehovah, for all power, dignity, and strength rests in his hands. Remember, as with apostate Israel, so the same with the Watchtower Society, Jehovah is not to blame for the agent’s revolt. Vengeance is His. Wait on Jehovah.

She is a staunch believer in God and follows the WTBTS in a very pick and choose way. I am very lucky I know.

Just thought you folks would like to know that there is a JW out there who is not following the crazier rules.

As Cedars says, there is a silent majority of JWs who are good people and who don’t really believe that the GB is the be all and end all of Christianity. Very few of them are wicked.

What is your interest in the JW cult, Real Deal? It tends to be of no concern to those whose lives have not been touched by it beyond an irritating knock on the door from a cheap suited mag pusher.

If there is an evil in the world that is not recognised as such, knowledge of the evil should be spread abroad and an effort made to rid the world of that evil. That is exactly what this site is about.

If there is an outfit in the world posing as an earnest, pious and charitable religious group, but is responsible merely for sheltering pedophiles, inciting nightmares with a load of imminent Armageddon nonsense, wrecking families with shunning edicts, stunting lives with its sneering at education beyond the level required to read and parrot its miserable mags and condemning to death its members who require a life saving blood transfusion, surely it should be exposed, and, finally, either utterly transformed so that none of the above horrors are part of its activity, or failing that, to be eliminated.

Do you agree, Real Deal? If not, why not?

I do not know if you are a Jehovah’s Witness, but if you are, from past experience I think a rational reply making an adequate defence of your destructive little corner of Christendom will not be forthcoming. Never, in any exchange, online or on the doorstep has a JW been able to justify the theology or even the existence of its misery making outfit.

It would appear, Real Deal, that you are a JW and determined to remain asleep, and thus deaf to the obscenity that is the Watchtower Cult.

Ignoring the truth about JW TRUTH is, I suppose, one of the few methods of being able to justify, or even glorify, frittering away a life as an unpaid mag. pusher for a corrupt and exploitative global publishing and property corporation.

Time you woke up! You will fee much better!.

You certainly are the real deal! Like all JWs you are totally incapable of defending your miserable little cult. Whether you succeed in ensnaring the occasional vulnerable bit of prey on the doorstep is probably also doubtful. I gather it takes 40 years of door knocking to achieve one baptism. Hence the drive to ‘dunk your own’ at an early age, a practice of which Cedars and countless others were victims.

With your stupid little insult you deserve to have your nose repeatedly rubbed in the stinking ordure of the denomination of Christendom to which you belong.

You need to ask yourself why you are content, or even proud, to be exploited by a global property and publishing corporation which cares nothing about you. You need to ask why you will defend an organisation which forbids you to think. You need to ask why you feel able to sneer at those who have left a grubby little church whose only record is failure on every front save the mastery of the hideous arts of cult mind control and, until the internet age, a competence in PR whereby to project their murderous little sect as something wholesome and worthy.

Soon, we expect, with the string of child abuse cover ups waiting in the wings, the multiple campaigns of ex JW groups and individuals, your obscene little corner of the World, your ugly little Adventist spinoff denomination, will no longer be able to function. What will you do then? Where will you go? If you like to feel arrogant and self righteous, which you appear to, will you seek out another little cult, since subservience is all you know about, or will you adjust to the wonders of the real world as it is?

We would welcome as many comments as you have time to send. If they match up to the quality of the previous ones, they can only be of service in the campaign to expose the Watchtower!

I remember hearing variation(s) of AM-the-Turd’s tale about the ‘loyal brother’ way back in the 70s and 80s; It usually surfaced in various forms at conventions or drone, sorry zone visits. Just like demon stories – they only seem to have happened to ‘friends of friends’. I’m surprised this poisonous little man has any left tbh…
    peace.

    The Real Deal,

You have achieved nothing positive from your post. You have not followed the advice of Christ, to speak mildly with others. You have exhibited none of the fruits of the spirit.

You are the real deal alright! You are yet another example of the rude and ignorant JW apologist that comes onto this site to post insulting comments and then not have any evidence to back up your impolite claims.

How is that in any way a Christian act? How has it helped to glorify your God?

I am a post graduate level “idiot” who can explain and articulate my opinion in polite and logical sentences. I seek to find common ground with my fellow human beings.

I hope that you come to realise that you are mistaken and that the religion that you are singularly failing to defend has many reforms to make.

    Peace be with you

    Excelsior!

Thanks a lot Real Deal …

You know, when I read news on the internet, I spend quite some time reading the comments, because those are the REAL news … They are as informative as the article itself, if you see what I mean …

“Tony bemoans films featuring vampires. ‘Are they dead or are they alive?’ he muses.”

Well, Tony, if you knew pop culture a little better, you would know that they transcend that dichotomy by being “undead” … but more importantly, they are obviously FICTIONAL and don’t need to be taken very seriously at all. (Much like Bronze Age stories involving talking serpents and donkeys, you know. Or maybe you don’t.)

Next question: “Mickey Mouse — is he a mouse or is he a person?”

Brothers in Africa may have more interesting stories:

I WAS 16 years old when rebel soldiers forced me to join their army. They supplied me with drugs and alcohol, and I often fought in a drug-crazed state. I fought many battles and committed terrible atrocities. This I deeply regret […] I desperately wanted spiritual help. I attended Pentecostal meetings, but the church members called me the Satan in their midst. So I started searching for Jehovah’s Witnesses […] When I confessed to my wicked deeds, the brothers read to me Jesus’ comforting words: “Healthy people do not need a physician, but those who are ill do. . . . I came to call, not righteous people, but sinners.”—Matt. 9:12, 13. (Yearbook 2014)!!

@Hakizimana Jean de Dieu – you like dropping these red herrings, don’t you?

We know that mind control cults find it very easy to recruit vulnerable people. This is not news.

    Hakizimana Jean de Dieu,

The thing to remember is that those comforting words were indeed Jesus’ words. As far as Im aware no one has a monopoly on Jesus or his teachings. They are free for all and no one organization can and should claim ownership on them or even imply that in order to receive Jesus’ comfort or that of his father we MUST belong to their organization. There lies my issue with the JW’s!

Yes, I agree. The jw leaders have arrogantly placed themselves between Jesus Christ and mankind. A very serious mistake indeed !

real deal said “What a bunch of delusional losers. And the so-called administrator of this site, Cedars. What a narcissist idiot, gobbling up all the idiotic adulation all the other idiots dish out on here.”

Real deal you sound jealous , something hit a nerve and you cant deal with it if that is the case just obey your leaders the GB and don’t come on site where there are exJW, simple, on the other hand glad you came shows just how JW behave behind the GB back.

Real Deal, of course, in typical JW fashion, offered no defence of the cult and no explanation of why he continued as an unpaid mag. distributor for a corrupt global property and publishing corporation.

Not a single JW contributor has made any case whatever for their being any truth in JW TRUTH.

There is a reason for that.

There is no case to be made.
